GLOBAL AIRCRAFT AFP/ATL COMPOSITES MARKET - TRENDS, FORECAST, COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS AND GROWTH OPPORTUNITY, 2019-2024
The global aircraft AFP/ATL composites market is projected to grow at an impressive rate over the next five years to reach US$ 4,005.1 million in 2024. Increasing production rates of the next-generation composite-rich aircraft A350XWB, B787, and F-35; introduction of fuel-efficient variants of the best-selling aircraft with a greater composites content:, A320neo and B737 max; Increasing preference of AFP/ATL process for fabricating critical aerospace composite parts; superior benefits of AFP/ATL over the hand layup process; and rising demand for faster production of composite parts in order to produce a large number of aircraft to meet huge order backlogs are giving an impetus to the growth of AFP/ATL composites in the aerospace industry...

NRC, FIVES JOIN FORCES TO DEVELOP INSPECTION TECHNOLOGY FOR AERSPACE SECTOR
As the aerospace industry continues to increase its use of automated composite manufacturing techniques to produce large aircraft components, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and Fives are working together to develop a profilometer that will provide fast, accurate inspection of composite parts. Based on optical technology, this in-process inspection system provides measurement information without limiting process functionality.

ADVANCES IN IN SITU INSPECTION OF AUTOMATED FIBER PLACEMENT SYSTEMS SENSORS FOR FABRIC INSPECTION DURING ADMP
Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) systems have been developed to help take advantage of the tailorability of composite structures in aerospace applications. AFP systems allow the repeatable placement of uncured, spool fed, preimpregnated carbon fiber tape (tows) onto substrates in desired thicknesses and orientations. This automated process can incur defects, such as overlapping tow lines, which can severely undermine the structural integrity of the part...

JP2018059899 (A) - SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HIGH SPEED DETECTION OF SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE FOD AND DEFECT
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for the detection of foreign objects or defects on and under a surface of a composite part under manufacture.SOLUTION: A member 130 is an inspection gantry and moves over the surface. A thermal excitation source 110 is fixed to the member 130 and is configured to direct infrared radiation to the surface...
US2017350764 (A1) - IN-PROCESS MONITORING, AUTOMATED DECISION-MAKING, AND PROCESS CONTROL FOR COMPOSITE MANUFACTURING USING PART-REFERENCED PLY-BY-PLY INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY AND OTHER NON-CONTACT NON-DESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION
Method and apparatus for detecting defects in a composite is provided. After a ply of material for a workpiece is positioned, thermal energy is applied to a top surface of the ply of material, and a digital thermographic camera captures images of the top surface. A computer processor determines heat characteristics of the top surface to identify regions of the top surface...
